Dear Middle School Students and Families,
Welcome to Grades 6–8 at HKIS—a vibrant and exciting stage of the secondary school journey and an important chapter in the lives of young adolescents. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning to our Tai Tam campus, our faculty, staff, and leadership team are delighted to welcome you and your family to the school year ahead.
At HKIS, we recognize that Grades 6–8 are a pivotal time in a student's development. Young people are learning who they are, what they value, and how they contribute to the communities around them. They are exploring their identities, building meaningful relationships, and developing the habits and character that will serve them throughout their lives. Our goal is to provide an environment that balances increasing freedom with thoughtful support, allowing students to take healthy risks, learn from their experiences, and grow in confidence and resilience.
Each day, students are presented with opportunities to challenge themselves academically, athletically, artistically, socially, and through service and leadership. Along the way, they are supported by exceptional teachers, advisors, coaches, counselors, and administrators who understand the unique needs of young adolescents and are committed to helping every student thrive. We consider it a privilege to partner with students and families during these formative years. Together, we can help our young people develop the knowledge, skills, character, and confidence they need to flourish in school and beyond.
This handbook is designed to help students and families navigate the transition to secondary school by providing information about the policies, practices, and expectations that guide our Grades 6–8 community. We know that middle school brings many new experiences, and it is natural to have questions along the way. While this handbook is a valuable starting point, it can never replace the relationships that are at the heart of our school. We encourage students and families to reach out to teachers, advisors, counselors, and administrators whenever support is needed. We are committed to partnering with you, and we are always happy to help.
The middle school years are a blank canvas, filled with possibilities. We encourage every student to embrace new experiences, make thoughtful choices, and approach each day with curiosity, courage, and a willingness to grow. Thank you for being part of our HKIS community.
Sincerely,
Aimmie Kellar
