Full year
Social Studies 6 focuses on developing the student’s inquiry and analytical thinking skills. Through looking at historical records, students can observe how geography, government, and economics influenced the development of ancient civilizations and influenced our societies today. They will look at a variety of primary and secondary text-based and digital resources. Throughout the year, students will develop skills to generate questions and research historical facts to support their ideas and reasoning. The course is structured around investigations to analyze concepts and to apply them to different historic and present-day contexts. Lessons incorporate activities where students learn independently and collaborate in groups, communicating their written and verbal explanations through multimedia presentations. The teacher facilitates discussions on concepts to guide the students’ inquiry and research processes.
