Full year
The Grade 8 Physical Education program serves as the culmination of students’ middle school PE journey, where they demonstrate proficiency in movement, game strategies, fitness concepts, and personal and social responsibility. Aligned with the four SHAPE standards, this program challenges students to apply their skills and knowledge in a variety of physical activities, preparing them for lifelong engagement in health and fitness. Using the "us" lens, students focus on contributing to a high-performing team, recognizing the value of leadership, collaboration, and inclusivity in physical activity settings.
Students participate in diverse movement activities such as volleyball, touch rugby, outdoor adventure, lacrosse, and fitness training. They refine their decision-making skills, adapt strategies in competitive environments, and take responsibility for supporting both their own growth and the success of their peers. Through self-reflection, peer assessment, and team-based challenges, students develop confidence, resilience, and a deeper understanding of how physical activity fosters well-being and community. By the end of Grade 8, students are expected to meet all middle school PE goals, demonstrating the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed for success in high school and beyond.
